Happenstance

My friend D, aka Superbrown, puts her blog address as her gmail status each time she writes something new. So when I saw it yesterday, I clicked on it, and read that morning's lovely story. Read it; in summary, D made friends with a Russian woman on the T after finding they have an interest in David Sedaris in common.

I was reading it and thinking, that's odd. Russian people are, by nature, very suspicious and don't make friends with people on the T. Except my mother: she makes new friends with people in the elevator. And the story about the slamming doors? And how now her day has meanign? I'm sitting there thinking, this is SO something my mother would do...

So then I go to my mother's house for dinner. Slurping on minestrone soup feels good. And mom asks me if I know a writer, David something. I'm perking up, how odd, David Sedaris everywhere today! Then she starts telling me one of her long winded stories about how today she tried to catch the T, and the doors closed, and she got on the next T and there was a beautiful girl with green eyes reading a book...

And I finish the story for her!! I know how this ends: she ends up with some notes on David Sedaris!

Yes.

The world really IS that small. D met my mom on the T, wrote about it, and my mom decided to tell me the story. Otherwise none of us would ever know... :)
